Open Coast

Open Coast

A small group of software engineers from several countries. We spent years building systems at large internet companies, and we’re turning what we learned into open source.

Soundings in years spent building at scale.

Who we are

Open Coast started in 2023. Each of us has five to more than ten years in the industry, at companies where systems serve millions of people every day.

Most of what that work teaches never leaves the building. We would rather write it down as code that anyone can read, run and change, and keep doing that for as long as we can.

How we work

  • Built from practice

Our projects start from problems we have actually run into on the job, not from a wish list.

  • Open by default

Code, releases and decisions happen in public, so anyone can see how a thing was made and why.

  • Here for the long run

A small project that stays alive is worth more than a big one left behind. We ship steadily and keep going.

Projects

Viora

Personal media library

One quiet window for the photos, video, comics and novels you already keep. Viora indexes the folders you choose and leaves your files where they are. The same Go server runs on your own computer or on a NAS.

Desktop app and Go server for macOS and Windows. Version 1.0 released October 2026.

dockercli

Container debugging

Debug containers running in Kubernetes straight from iTerm or a web browser, without hunting down the node and pod by hand.

Written in Go.

More on the way

Not yet charted

Several projects from our day-to-day work are still in private repositories. We are reviewing them and removing anything internal or sensitive. Each one opens here as soon as it is ready.

Log

  1. Open Coast is founded by a handful of engineers in different countries.
  2. opencoast.io goes online.
  3. Viora 1.0 is released for macOS and Windows.

Come aboard

Issues, pull requests and ideas are welcome on every project. If you have solved something at scale and want to share it in the open, we would like to hear from you.
